Violence and the right to health: A focus on obstetric violence
On March 4, 2024, Hon. Almameh Gibba proposed the Women’s (Amendment) Bill 2024 in The Gambia’s National Assembly, aiming to annul the current ban on female circumcision by deleting sections 32A and 32B from the 2015 Act. The bill asserts the practice’s alignment with cultural, religious beliefs, and the Constitution’s protection of such practices, despite international concerns on the matter.
